About

One person. Two builds at a time.

Shift is a small practice in Sydney. It exists because the same four jobs leak hours out of almost every service business, the fix is not complicated, and most of the people selling the fix are selling something else.

Why this exists

The admin habit is the most expensive thing in a small service business, and it never appears on a single invoice.

I have spent years running a small service business of my own. The pattern is always the same: the work is fine, the clients are fine, and the owner is doing four hours of unpaid administration a day because there is nobody else to do it and no system that will.

The tools to fix that got genuinely good, quickly. What did not arrive was anyone willing to build the boring part properly — inside your accounts, documented, in your name, at a price agreed before the work starts. That gap is the whole business.

How it runs

Boutique is a constraint, not a brochure word.

What that buys you

  • The person you meet does the work. There is no account manager, no offshore build team, and nobody you have never spoken to touching your systems.
  • Two active builds at a time. That is the honest capacity of one person doing this properly. When both are full the answer is a date, not a bigger team.
  • Fixed scope, quoted before anything starts. If the scope changes, that is a change order priced up front, not a surprise on an invoice.
  • Everything in your name from day one. Accounts, keys, workflows, code. Not migrated to you at the end as a gesture.
  • Sydney, and Australian English. Every build is explained in the language your clients use.

What Shift is not

  • Not a software product. There is nothing to subscribe to and nothing that stops working when you stop calling.
  • Not a reseller. No commission on the tools you end up using, and no reason to recommend an expensive one.
  • Not a legal or professional-standards adviser. The Verify work documents technical and operational facts. It does not interpret your obligations, and it is not legal advice.
  • Not interested in a migration you don't need. The work goes on top of the systems you already pay for, unless there is a real reason not to.
  • Not for everyone. If the honest answer at the fit call is "not yet", you will hear exactly that.

The test

If Shift disappeared tomorrow, nothing of yours would stop.

Every account is already yours, every workflow is documented, and every one of them is exportable in a format the rest of the market can read. That is the standard the work is built to, and it is the first thing worth asking any provider.
